3 GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN MY LIFE
1.BECOMING A HUMAN BEING
Some people know where they are going and have a single focus from an early age. Carroll Shelby spoke about a moment when he was 10. His father told him, "Son, it's a truly lucky man who knows what he wants to do in this world, because that man will never work a day in his life.” I wasn't that lucky!
I was all over the map, partially because of growing up in a dysfunctional family but ultimately I believe everyone has a different path and many never really discover nor follow their true path. Luckily I had an inner spirit that drove me to believe in myself and keep pursuing my path.
However, that didn't come easy. Until age 18, when I started my 4 year degree at The Ohio State University, I had little confidence and self esteem. Even though I was a high achiever in athletics, I would get so nervous before each wrestling match, I would actually go outside my body. I was more worried about failure than winning. I knew I had to grow and develop my success skills, so I had read every success book I could get my hands on. When I was 19, after I had moved into my own apartment, I had the first of many huge epiphanies, the first being:
If I didn't believe and stand up for myself...no one else would either.
During the years at Ohio State I took a lot of psychology and counseling courses and really came into my own. I realized that not only was I a leader, but I loved teaching and helping others. But...I wouldn't say I was a human being yet! In my 20s I was selfish, egocentric, and was clueless about how I fit into or could play a positive role in society. I basically lived life for myself and focused on my personal growth.
It was in my 30s that I came into my own and actually figured out what it means to be a human being and not only fit into but give back to society and others. By by 40s my path had become clear and things really took off. I'm really into Native American ways. My totem is woIf, which is teacher. Every business that I started or worked in from Health/fitness and sports performance to real estate, to coaching and mentoring, was based on my passion for teaching and helping others to reach the next level of success. In fact, when I started focusing on coaching and mentoring, I realized that I was a rocket launcher. My unique talent was helping others to achieve their next level of success and it didn't really matter which field I was working in.
So with age, especially over 40 I not only became a human being, but embraced and was passionate about my path. Thus one of the reasons that I created My Boomer Legacy is to be able to give back. One of the most poignant statements that I have ever heard or said, is:
if only I knew then what I know now…
2.HELPING OTHERS ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS
In my first lifetime, from age 20-35, I was focused on Health Fitness and Sports Performance. I earned my Masters in Education from the Dept. of Health, Physed, and Nutrition at the University of Cincinnati. While working on my Masters, I had the honor of being asked to design and implement a health promotion program for the employees of University Hospital at UC. Upon completion of my Masters, I was hired full time and worked in conjunction with University of Cincinnati Sports Medicine Center, working with the doctors, nurses, and other employees to improve their health and fitness. Working with Doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and exercise physiologists gave me a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from and implement the health promotion program from a multidisciplinary approach using all the specialists.
This experience allowed me to go on and start my own Human Performance Institute and Medically based training center. From there I coached, counseled, and trained thousands of clients from world class athletes to executives to weekend warriors. When I say, I helped others achieve their dreams, it was so much more than that. Many times, the medical screening process that I had developed uncovered a serious medical condition. So, in a few cases, I played a part in saving someone's life. In most cases it was helping someone lose weight, or achieve a higher level of fitness or sports performance.
When I moved to Florida I had an opportunity to get into a totally different field: Real Estate. My goal and passion was always the same. Educate my client and help them achieve their goal, whether it be purchase their first home, vacation home near Disney, Orlando, or move up to a luxury home. Likewise, when I worked with business clients in a coaching and mentoring capacity, I helped them identify and master the skills they lacked in order to launch themselves and their business to the next level. One client that I would call my biggest success was one that I coached from bankruptcy to a company that now does over $10,000,000 per year. Those outcomes are not everyday occurrences so I cherish any moments where I have been able to impact or help someone launch to the next level. To sum up my special talent...I'm a rocket launcher! Early in my career I thought I was very analytical and over the top on my specialty. It wasn't until I focused on coaching and mentoring in my 40s and 50s that my clients told me my true gift and secret was in helping them achieve break through and launch themselves to the next level. So, it took a lifetime to recognize and embrace it, but, my new title is:
ROCKET LAUNCHER!
3.SPORTS AND BUSINESS ACHIEVEMENTS
